Skincare Tips for Beginners

Some of you might have just started to care a little more for their skin and maybe you don’t know what to do exactly yet. No worries! We here at BLVDskin are all about offering you high quality information about how to properly take care of your skin. To keep it simple I’ve made a list of all the basics you need to know when getting into skincare and treating your skin type properly.

1.      Always Double Cleans.

Especially if you wear make up it is vital for your skin to be cleansed twice opposed to just once with one product. They best way to taking care of cleaning your skin is to start off with a cleansing balm. A cleansing balm isn’t only great for accumulating every piece of dirt and make up on your skin, it’s also an environmental friendlier way than using cleansing wipes. Plus, with wipes you’re basically just rubbing the dirt and makeup into the skin instead of cleaning it all off. After using a cleansing balm you want to use a facial wash to wash off every last piece of dirt, left over SPF and make up. Then gently dap your skin dry.

2.      Dabbing not Dragging.

What I mean by that is that one of the ways to avoid early signs of aging is to always handle your skin with the utmost gentle care. Don’t drag a rough towel across your skin, always try to use a soft cloth and DAB the skin dry, gently. This might sound like such a small little thing, but it really helps with avoiding those small lines to appear on our skin that, in time, will become deeper wrinkles.

3.      Less is More.

When it comes to skin care we always like to rather keep it simple than overdo it with too many steps and products. Your skin can only absorb as much and when you’re using your 5th serum and follow it up by using multiple creams, chances are your skin won’t absorb most of it and you are wasting product.

4.      5 Steps Should Be Enough.

A skin acre routine containing 5 steps and thus 5 products should be the goal. You start off with a double cleans, like mentioned before, so that is 2 products. You can use a toner after that but isn’t absolutely necessary. You then want to use 1 serum, that’s 4. You want to follow that by using a day of night cream. Note! Make sure to use a day cream with SPF in it.

5.      SPF All Day, Every Day.

If your day cream doesn’t contain any SPF you want to add a 6th step by applying an SPF of at least 30 or higher. Even if it’s not a sunny day or if you’re planning to stay inside most of the day, STILL WEAR YOUR SPF! Wearing your SPF every day will be the best anti aging technique you will ever use. No Botox can ever do what prevention will do for your skin. Even when it’s a cloudy day or a day inside, the UV light from the sun will get to you regardless and will be just as damaging as when you sit in direct sunlight.

6.      Never, Ever Sleep with Your Make Up On.

Please don’t do this. Your skin will hate you when you fall asleep with make up on. It can cause breakouts and even early signs of aging if you don’t properly clean your skin before falling asleep. When it’s been a hectic day and you come home absolutely knackered, let the first thing you do be cleaning off your make up and applying some nourishing cream for the night.

7.      Don’t Use DIY Face Masks.

I know they look like fun and some of them might not even be that bad. But most of the DIY face masks contain products that are very harmful for the skin. Another thing to keep in mind is that when you put stuff on your face that’s not specifically designed to put on to skin, chances are that your DIY mask won’t have any effect on your skin at all. Why? Because the molecules in your DIY products aren’t small enough to penetrate the skin so it will just sit on there and do more harm than good. Just believe us and skip that fun looking avocado face mask trend.

8.      Pores Don’t Open or Close.

You sometimes hear people say that warm water will open your pores and cold water will close them. Nope. Pores don’t do that. The only thing a pore might do is relax and tighten. Warm water might relax the pores but they won’t open. The ingredient ‘Niacinamide’ is one of the best products to treat the appearance of larger pores. Niacinamide will tighten your pores and they will appear smaller. Cold water might tighten the pores temporarily but won’t do much in the long run. Dragging an ice cube across your face won’t have long lasting effects on your pores.

9.      Any Skin Care is Always Better Than None.

If you’re just starting out with skin care and don’t have all the products yet or don’t know what works for your skin yet, don’t worry, the fact that your starting to look after your skin is always better than having no skin care routine at all. Give your skin and yourself some time to figure out what works best for you.

10.  Skin Care Doesn’t Have to Cost You An Arm & A Leg.

Good skincare doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg haha, what I mean by this is that you really don’t have to spend a lot of money for good skin care. There are really great brands out there that are very affordable and will be great for your skin. It’s all about the ingredients!
